The story behind the painting:
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.” Isaiah 23:6 … This was my grandmother’s favorite verse, which I once gave to her handwritten and framed, over 20 years ago. She kept it in her kitchen until she graduated to heaven at 99 years old.
I painted this piece on her birthday in heaven. She loved jonquils, as we called them down South. And they make me think of the trumpet blowing when we get raptured up to heaven and see Jesus and each other again… hopefully soon!
My grandmother was one who was quick to admit she was prone to worry, and some would say life gave her plenty to worry about.
But I know she loved this verse for a reason… it was made personal through her reliance on it to remind her that God would grant her perfect peace when she to kept her mind on Jesus and trusted in Him.
Although at first glance, that may seem transactional, as I learn more and more about how the mind affects the brain — which affects the chemicals released in our bodies like oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin, epinephrine (which are calming and relaxing) or cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine (which are considered stress hormones), I realize it’s more like God giving us an explanation of how He designed our minds (and brains) to be in a trusting relationship with Him.
We cannot even comprehend the vastness of His brilliance or the depths of His love.
May we trust in Him (for He is worthy of our trust) and fix our thoughts on Him (rather than the worries of our current circumstances)… and walk in perfect peace no matter the storms we face…. And may we hear that trumpet blast soon!
Maranatha!
